Damask & Dentelle's website was launched in October 2009 and is now recognized as one of Québec leading design blogs & web directory with a devoted following. Founder and author Vanessa Sicotte, a design blogger and trends observer, created Damask & Dentelle as a way to reach out and share finds of Québec's design boutiques, artisans and professionals to the consumers as well as people from the design industry. Vanessa is a respected and trusted voice in the design community and also writes for a number of top lifestyle web magazines such as Sympatico.ca & SweetspotQc.ca where she is a columnist.
“Why the name Damask & Dentelle? I had this idea in the middle of the night while I was toying and immediately rejecting ideas of names that were coming to me: Deco Montréal, All about Décor, the Décor book… Damask & Dentelle sounds poetic and is carrying in its name paradoxes of decoration that I love. Damask is a very strong print, often seen on curtain fabrics in velour, almost masculine in essence. Dentelle (“lace” in French) in opposition is fragile, delicate and feminine. A combination of French and English were also symbolic of the culture and the great country we live in.” – Vanessa Sicotte
Through the website and blog, Damask & Dentelle helps retailers get the visibility they often cannot afford by their own means. Housed under a single web address, their visibility is increased exponentially. The company's mission is one of information in order to feed the curiosity of the décor lovers, but also one that is philanthropic by encouraging the street side retailers and artisans by helping them to get noticed, to get business, and to help them preserve the genuine flavor they give to our boroughs.
